office_pic1.jpgThe office is pure reality television in a fantasy television tortilla. Having worked the office shuffle for a good amount of time with healthy vacations in Retailopolis
I can appreciate the subtle and sometimes not-so-subtle humor The Office tosses our ways on Thursday nights.

This week dealt with the potential closing of the Scranton office and the imminent layoffs it would mean for the cast. Michael freaks the fuck out and takes Dwight with him off the deep end on a quest to confront the CFO guerrilla-filmmaker style at his home. They get there and he isn’t home. So they wait. And we move on.

The rest of the employees deal with the news in their own way. Some are happy as it means they can move on and get a fresh start. Others are so set in their ways that it’s like the end of the world. But it was truth on the screen, I’ve been there and it’s all true. You get codependant with your job, your coworkers and your office and before you know it you’re heartbroken and despondent, your job has found a better employee and is moving on.

It’s harsh, but it’s very real.

In the end the Scranton office ends up staying open as Josh, the man picked to head up the Northeast Division of the company leaves for greener pastures causing a panic and scramble to figure out wtf is going on asap. As Scranton stays open, the Stamford branch Ji relocated to gets swapped in to be closed thus setting up a Jim/Pam reunion next week.

Never thought the 9-5 could be this good.
