This week was Bon Jovi week. Rock icon of the 80’s and beyond he got to tutor our american idols this week. Hopefully he made an impression. His songs are rough and cover many octaves. Some of the singers put their own touches while others stuck to the basics of the songs itself and made their voices stronger. I personally do not like Blake Lewis’ beat box remix of one of my favorite songs. Yes, I do love his beat box, yes i do think he’s talented and original. But, however you shouldn’t reshape the songs millions grew up on for the new generation in such a way that makes people cringe. How did he get kudos for this ? Even Bon Jovi said 16 bars of beat boxing was excessive, the beginning was awesome and i was hoping he would stick with just that. He brought a drummer on stage and added his beat box and it went on too long for me to remain comfortable.

Phil Stacey started the show off stronger then ever with ‘blaze of glory’. His voice being a powerhouse. But, he did not detour from the notes he has been singing for 15 years. He knew the song in its original state too well. He added no personal touches to the song except made the notes a few bars higher.

Jordin Sparks - This week her hair was rockin! She said her mom pushed her onto bon jovi music, she’s only 17 years old and even bon jovi stated “i couldn’t sing half that good when i was 17.” She sang ‘living on a prayer’ and it was a little rough in spots not the best performance for her but she was a little out of her element and still a little out of her comfort zone, she should of sang a love song where her notes would have made their way accross better, Overall, she’s a great singer and my number two pick for american idol.

Lakisha One of my favorites, and my top pick for american idol. She sings her heart out every song. She reminds me of mandisa not because she’s a big girl. It is because She’s a powerhouse, not self conscious, beautiful and comfortable in her own skin. She’s someone everyone would be able to relate to and she’s my top pick for american idol. I love her voice and her style of singing as well as stage presence.

Chris Richardson the proclaimed Justin Timberlake like singer. I wonder how Justin would of done this song. He would have remembered the words. This song by him was forgettable. his notes were rough and twangy, he should of chosen a different song and played it straight for one song at least.

Melinda doolitle have a nice day from the newer bon jovi album. sounding like Bon Jovi channeling Tina Turner (hey i was typing this during her song, the judges agree with me on this one!). She was awesome as ever, will she ever be comfortable being in center stage permanently ? I think she’s finally getting used to the idea. She is down to earth, her friends tell her how to dress. She’s basic and uncomplicated. If she wins will all the fame and attention break or drive her ? She’s one of my top choices but i don’t think she’s american idol worthy.
