Wendy Williams’ talk-show has been on the air for some time now but not until recently have I watched her. I don’t know what it was that kept me from her but since watching the reruns late at night I have grown a love for her. I had to check out what this lady is about and have found out that she is a Jersey girl born in 1964 who started her calling in college radio then took it to the next level in 1989 as a substitute disc jockey for WRKS in New York city. From there she developed herself as a radio personality usually by dishing up topics on celebrities that have caused some backlash from some and friendships by others. Wendy has been awarded Billboards 1993 Best On-Air Personality, and inducted in the National Radio Hall of Fame in 2009. In 2009 she also developed what we now know as The Wendy Williams Show and has become a staple in television history. I think what draws viewers to Wendy is her “say it like you mean it” personality. She talks to celebrities about things that everyday people would like to know and has a ball doing it. The Wendy Williams Show has some specific characteristics that also make the show irresistable like her Shoe Cam, the Diva Fan and her signature phrase “How you doing?” This year Wendy celebrated her 500th episode and I for one look forward to 500+ more. Wendy along with Andy Cohen, Ellen, and Oprah are what makes me hope that one day instead of just writing articles about what I love I to will have a talk-show just so that I can talk to all these famous people and have fun with them like they are a friend. Keep an eye out for Wendy Williams to start a new season on September 10th 2012. Here is a clip of a Wendy Williams episode featuring my favorite Mob Wife Big Ang.
July 4th started a great moment in VH1 history, the first episode of everyone’s favorite Mob Wife, Big Ang!!!! This lady was hilarious and easy to love after just a few episodes on the original Mob Wives and it was no wonder she got her own show. We follow Ang through her life of fun and no drama along with her family and friends. She takes us to her place of business on Staten Island, The Drunken Monkey, trips to Florida, Atlantic City and New York, and her many wild parties full of her nearest and dearest. This show has me and my roommates rolling every Sunday. My only complaint is that it is only a half hour long. This past episode was about her opening up the Drunken Monkey to some of her favorite people, gays!!!! Ang has trouble with picking up business on Tuesdays and decides to introduce Tues Gays after having a great time in New York during Pride Weekend. Ang, now you need to bring a Drunken Monkey to Chicago near Boystown or Andersonville, you know I will be there for sure. Next episode looks to be another great episode bringing Drita and Renee from Mob Wives to a party and the possibility for Neil, Ang’s husband, to buy Ang a new engagement ring. Stay tuned on Sundays because you know I will.
Summer is almost at an end and I am back!!!!! Since May I have been going through some really good changes in my life but now it’s time to get back to what I love, pop culture and reality T.V.. Through the past months there was hardly time to dip into what I love but when I had an opportunity boy did I jump into it. A good movie to keep an eye out for is Amazing Spider-Man, not so good movies, Prometheus and Snow White and The Huntsman. Speaking of Snow White, Kristen Stewart cheating on Robert Pattinson, who didn’t know they were together and most of all who really cares that she cheated on him with married man Rupert Sanders? Oh yeah, pretty much everyone. I am tired of hearing about it!!!!! Snooki had her son Lorenzo! Congrats, hopefully this encourages you to stop being an idiot. Usually there is garbage on T.V. during the summer, not so much this time, unless you count the GOP convention! Some shows I shamelessly got hooked on were Big Ang, Beverly Hills Nannies, Around the World In 80 Plates, The Glass House, and my favorite returns Big Brother, Bad Girls Club, Pretty Little Liars, Weeds, and Real Housewives Of New York. An epic fail for me has been Chicagolicious, and Mob Wives Chicago. This saddens me because these shows are in my city!!!! Chicagolicious just features some uprooted New Yorkers in a salon except for Austin, who is the only one I loved, and Mob Wives Chicago just is boring and irritating. Sorry ladies!!!! From here on out I will give you my best, welcome back to Pop Assault!!!!!
American Idol is for another round of shake-ups. Both Jennifer Lopez and Steven Tyler are leaving the show this season while the Fox Broadcasting company is signing up new judges Mariah Carey who beat out, Wait for it: Mary J. Blige (oh shit! ) and Celine Dion for the coveted spot.
Carey has sold more than 200 million records worldwide, has more No. 1 songs than any solo artist in history and has 18 Billboard No. 1 singles (17 of which Carey wrote), behind only the Beatles.)
Jennifer Lopez is reportedly going to work on her music, which I can’t wait for another round of “shake your ass on the dancefloor” music.
I think Mariah being a mentor and helping young singers in their time of need is a great step for her in the right direction. We at popassault.com wish her the best of luck. We will be tuning in on a very regular basis to see how the new Miss Cannon adjusts to the television limelight!
Fox is reportedly trying to reach a “younger” audience. I’m sorry but Mariah is for us who grew up in the 90′s and after spending way too much money for nosebleed seats I think I’m entitled to an opinion. But Mariah is looking fierce and is moving on with her life, new baby , new husband and all. Nothing is holding her back. You Go Mariah! Mwaaauh!
We will miss Sherman Hemsley, hopefully he will make it to the deluxe apartment in the sky. From 1975-1985 he was the leader of the Jefferson’s a spin off from All in the family. He was also on The Love Boat, Amen, Fantasy Island, Family Guy and countless other television shows. He was thoroughly entertaining and will be missed. We at popassault.com extend our deepest sympathy to him and his family.
We hope that his deluxe apartment in the sky is fit for a king of his caliber, for he entertained us for almost 40 years and deserves simply the best accommodations.
I have an issue for the men out there. When did being a man and taking care of yourself go to the extreme on either side of the spectrum? It seems once “metrosexual” (a word I loathe and want to slap the inventor of) passed through the social media lips, the world of men has never been the same.
Well let me introduce two more words that I am sorrier 4 learning: manjazzle, pejazzle. “What?” (You may ask) That is when a man decides to jewel up his “jewels”. Not with a piercing or a tattoo (also 2 things I’m not sure I’d be fond of in that area) but with rhinestones and/or glitter adhered to the very delicate area. So my confusion is: when did men stop being men? When did being a proud man go from taking care of yourself to glitzing out a la Liberace?
It seems that men have either gone completely off the deep end by waxing and rhinestoning anything they can or they don’t shower and are practically a walking petri dish. I prefer a man in the middle. Someone who showers on a regular basis, washes his clothes and hair and if he really feels the need to “manscape” (can’t believe I’m using that word) then that is fine too. A little care goes a long way. I don’t need him all sparkly like a vampire from twilight and I don’t want him all gross and icky like a zombie from (insert movie title here) Just a regular guy who smells good and can be seen with out in public is all.
So for any men out there that want to know what women want…we don’t want you doing mani/pedis with us. We don’t want you waxing every inch of hair off your body and we don’t want you looking like a Christmas ornament. Come as you are, clean, presentable and a man. Its ok to indulge in certain cleansing rituals at a spa or using nice smelling lotions. But if you have to defend the things you do and have no choice BUT to call yourself a metrosexual, then you have gone a little too far. If you have to describe yourself as anything other than a man, then you might want to rethink a few things in your repertoire.
Just got finished watching the Glee Season 3 Finale and got instantly pissed. The beginning was funny with some flashbacks of Kurt doing the “Single Ladies” video with Tina and Brittney and then his father reenacting it but after that it lost it’s momentum. The songs were decent, the ending sucked, and if it didn’t come back I probably wouldn’t care. Sorry Ryan Murphy but the only thing you did great for the finale was the guest appearance of Gloria Estefan as Santana’s Mom. One fan is sorely disappointed with the way the whole episode played out and that’s me.
Just picked up this episode of The Wendy Williams Show and LOVED IT!!!! Nene Leakes, my favorite Real Houswives of Atlanta reality star, had an interview with Wendy. Nene talked about her friendship with Kim Kardashian, her new show by Ryan Murphy The New Normal, her role as Roz Washington on Glee, and The Real Housewives of Atlanta. My favorite topic had to be the fact that “She is rich, bitch!” Love love love Wendy Williams and Nene Leakes, hope you enjoy the clip.
Just got done watching VH1′s Mob Wives Reunion part 1 and am not disappointed. We got some information on Junior being a “rat” and found out more of the horrible things he has done to Renee Graziano. My heart goes out to her and her family. With that, there have been a lot of confrontations during this whole season but the one that caught the most coverage had to be the one between Drita D’Avanzo and Karen Gravano. This feud started last season and seemed like it was going to fizzle out in the first episode but with the help of Ramona Rizzo, turned into an all out brawl that effected all the women of the Mob Wives. I will say that even though the women smoothed it over and remained cordial during the Reunion, I was Team Drita every step of the way. Drita has been real from day one of the show and always seems to bring the shit to the table and the balls to back it up. She knows she has a temper and has tried to control it and stay out of drama, she is a go getter when pursuing modeling and rapping, and a great mom to her girls. Karen sounds like a broken record, is all over the map with her endeavors , and talks a lot of shit. However Karen would probably have been mild if she was not consistently having Ramona buzz in her ear. I do not blame the producers for putting Ramona in for a little back up for Karen but she really pisses me off with some of the things that fall from her mouth. So when it came down to the final minutes of the Reunion and Drita wanted to box with Ramona after the show, I say F her up Drita, you have controlled your temper enough. I cannot wait for part 2 and if you have missed any of the second season of Mob Wives, find it.
So I am probably the only one who is tired of Tim Burton movies as of late and my reason is because he has Johnny Depp and Helena Bonham Carter as characters in all of them, and the stories can get a bit long and boring. When I had seen the previews for Dark Shadows I was not interested in the least for those factors but on Sunday when nothing else was playing at the theater I decided to give it a whirl. Thank you Mr. Burton for making me love this movie. First I want to say that the soundtrack is amazing, second the story was not drawn out and had very entertaining twists, and third the characters were fun, even Johnny and Helena. I never once nodded off like when I watched Charlie and the Chocolate Factory or Alice in Wonderland. The humor hit target each time it was there. One of my favorite characters was Michelle Pfeiffer as Elizabeth Collins and to see Jonny Lee Miller in a role was a treat. I am not going to give away any parts of this movie but I highly recommend it and cannot want for it to come to DVD/Bluray. What are you waiting for, GO!!!!!
